The harlequin is one of the classic characters of the Commedia del Arte, a type of improvisational theater that appeared in Italy in the 16th century. His suit was made of multicolored rhombuses, which at first were patches that represented poverty, as it was a kind of hustler but eventually becomes an attractive and elegant suit.
He was employed in many pieces of the Comedia dell'Arte, appearing as an indispensable male character within them. His role is that of a comic valet, being known for his sense of humor, although he also does stunts and acrobatics. Harlequin plays the role of humble, naive and sensitive server, also often seen as wild cards. The name Harlequin is born as a character of popular beliefs related to hell. The costume of the harlequin is the most representative, usually dressed in plaid clothes, masked and sometimes masked, for this reason is often a character in costumes and carnivals. The attitude of a harlequin is very similar to that of a jester.
