In Greek mythology, Clio was the muse of history. She was a daughter of Zeus and the Titaness Mnemosyne, goddess of memory.

German sculptor Rudolph_Schadow made this bronze statue for the Gardens of Sanssouci in the Prussian capital Potsdam.

In 1829, when royal gardener Hermann Sello designed the gardens of Charlottenhof Palace, he placed the statue at the stairway to a Greek-styled pergola, next to a statue of Greek god Apollo.
