A bandeira e brasao significa: "Escudo ibérico de sinopla, com uma fortaleza de prata, aberta, iluminada e lavrada de sable, chefe do segundo, carregado da sombra do sol, de goles, entre duas estrelas de blau e contrachefe ondado do segundo, carregado de um peixe nadante de goles; o escudo é encimado de coroa mural de prata, de oito torres, suas portas abertas de sable e tem como apoio duas embarcações de recreio, de prata, vestidas de goles; listel de blau, forrado de prata, com o topônio "BERTIOGA" entre os milésimos "l547" e "1993", tudo de prata."
