As most of us have learned, to err is human. The map shows this to be a POLICE SUBSTATION, but it definitely is a POST OFFICE. The Police are at the corner of Market and Blaffer.

Built during the New Deal Era, it's a wonder why this building is not on the New Deal list. The supervising architect was Louis A. Simon:
"In 1934, Simon was appointed as the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, a position that he retained until his retirement in 1941. During his tenure, Simon designed and oversaw hundreds of projects, ranging from major buildings such as the IRS Building in Washington D.C., to small border stations along the Canadian border in Vermont. Simon also designed several courthouse and post office facilities, including buildings in Erie City, Pennsylvania; Columbia, Tennessee; Dublin, Georgia; and Cincinnati, Ohio."

Across town is the former Goose Creek Post Office (

It appears that the building has had little alterations since it was built in 1936. The exterior is buff brick, with large windows across the front. The interior is typical of a post office of the 1930s. There are only two service windows, both have bars on them preventing patrons from physically touching the postal workers. The mail drop slots are brass with wood.
