The public park is always open but the abbey itself is fenced off with restricted opening times. When the abbey is open entrance is free.
This sign is close to the entrance of the abbey, in the public park area, next to the railings surrounding the abbey.
It has specific information about birds that live in the abbey, but also this general information.
To the human population of Leeds, Kirkstall Abbey is an imposing structure which is testament to the ingenuity and determination of its medieval architects and builders.
However for the local bird and bat population, it represents nothing more than a large and elaborate rockface; a cliff which provides innumerable opportunities for places to roost and nest.
