In the building of the former school, on July 3, 1854 was born the most important Hukvaldy native, the genius of Czech music, the composer Leoš Janácek. At present, the Information Center, the Leos Janacek Memorial Hall and the gallery for occasional exhibitions are located on the ground floor of the building.

On the front of the building there is a memorial plaque with bronze bust of Leoš Janácek from sculptor Augustin Handzel.

In Hukvaldy in 1848, Jan Janacek (the father of Leoš Janácek) took the position of an independent teacher. From his comfy apartment house he came with his large family to the dilapidated Hukvaldy school.

Janacek's childhood ended suddenly and suddenly in 1865 when his father decided to send him to the foundation of the Old-Moravian monastery. Had George Janacek wanted Leoš to be only a teacher, he would not send him so far from home. The teacher could also be in Pribor. But he wanted the boy to receive a thorough music training, which was only possible in the foundation.
