Pho Kao Ton Temple is located near the site of a major battle between Thailand and Burma. In the year 1765 the Burmese invaded Thailand and a group of Burmese soldiers raided this region of Thailand. For 8 months the local people defended their land (Bang Rajan) against the Burmese. Near this temple a museum describes their battle.
The Pho Kao Ton temple (Temple of the 9 Bodhi Trees) was built in 2519 BE (1976) to commemorate Ajarn Thammachot and the Bang Rajan heroes. The temple follows the standard Thai design, but is clearly larger and more elaborate than the average. A large Buddha dominates the temple. Worth a visit during your stay in the province.
