While driving through the very small town of Albert (also known locally as Oney), we saw this tiny vacant building and wondered what it had been - perhaps a fruit stand? A little while later while speaking with a local resident, we learned its amazing story.

Believe it or not, this tiny 8 x 10 concrete block building with its steep gable roof, had once been the town's post office. For many years, the postmistress had suffered the inconvenience of working out of a post office with no running water and no bathroom facilities. Not that many years ago, a portable metal post office building became the new post office.

We were given permission to look inside this building and found nothing but a wall of deep shelving, and a mail drop in the wall. We assume there must have been a portable table and chair at one time. We were told that for a period of time, this post office was the small one in the United States. (We Googled that and found that a 7 x 8 post office in Ochopee, Florida, currently holds that distinction since 1953). Smallest Post Office

Visit Instructions:
To post a log to an existing U.S. Post Office waymark, you will need to post a picture of the front of the building, with the name of the post office in the background if that is possible.

A description of your Post Office is required, such as when it was built, history, outstanding or unique features, population of the city or town, just do a quick internet search and find an interesting bit of information about the city or town and add it to the long description, to make it more interesting. Even just adding in the population of the area can give others an idea of how many people this post office serves. This description should be at least three sentences.

If your Post Office has any unusual or unique features that you feel others would enjoy viewing, additional pictures are always welcome.
Including your gps device in the picture is not necessary, but wouldn't be cause for disapproval, as long as all other details of your log are acceptable.
