The broad printed sign has a map showing the trails that head down from the summit. The 'Key' has the following icons/symbols: Walking Trail; Management Trail; Woodland Trail; Forest Trail; Summit Trail; Little Black Mountain Track; Summit (821 m); Pedestrian Access.

On the left-hand side, the sign has the following information:

Aboriginal History
"The ACT and region is part of the traditional home of the Ngunnawal Aboriginal people. The Molonglo River Flats, Black Mountain and its spur, now known as the Acton Peninsula, were believed to have been favoured as meeting places. The heavily timbered areas provided ample stocks of possum, kangaroo and wallaby whilst the Molonglo River, now flooded by Lake Burley Griffin, was rich in Murray Cod and bird life. Evidence of this traditional lifestyle, including stone artifacts, campsites and scarred trees is still visible in the landscape.

"Through the trees, you can see the city, Lake Burley Griffin, Mount Ainslie and Mount Majura."

Walking Black Mountain
"Black Mountain has many walking tracks and management trails. For a short introduction to the mountain, walk along one of the trails that start from here or take the Forest Trail that starts at the car park 800 metres down the Summit Road."

Plant Life
"Dry open forests of mainly Scribbly Gum, Red Stringybark, Red Box and Cherry Ballart grow on the upper slopes. The understorey is diverse with shrubs, grasses and orchids."

Unfortunately the sign has been used by MANY tourists, and area on the map showing the car park and Lookout area has been partly rubbed away.
