Samuel Phillips (vers 1755-1808)

Samuel Phillips arrive à Québec peu après 1760. À la fin de sa vie, il habite cette maison, propriété du menuisier Charles Moreau. Tour à tour officier de douane, maître de poste, inspecteur des farines et des biscuits et grand juré à la cour du Banc du Roi, il devient en 1792 le premier greffier de la Chambre d'Assemblée du Bas-Canada, fonction qu'il occupe jusqu'à sa mort, en 1802, il se voit confier la garde et la responsabilité des livres de la Bibliothèque des députés. Décédé à Québec, il est inhumé au cimetière Saint-Matthew.

Plaque dévoilée à l'occasion du deuxième centenaire de la Bibliothèque de l'Assemblée Nationale par la présidente de l'Assemblée Nationale du Québec, Madame Louise Harel, et le président de la Commission de la Capitale Nationale du Québec, Monsieur Pierre Boucher.

Samuel Phillips (about 1755-1808)

Samuel Phillips arrived in Quebec shortly after 1760. At the end of his life, he lives in this house, owned by the carpenter Charles Moreau. Alternately customs officer, postmaster, inspector of flour and biscuits and grand juror at the court of the King's Bench, he became in 1792 the first clerk of the House of Assembly of Lower Canada, a function he occupies until his death, in 1802, he is entrusted with the custody and the responsibility of the books of the Library of the deputies. Died in Quebec City, he is buried in St. Matthew Cemetery.

Plaque unveiled on the occasion of the second centenary of the Library of the National Assembly by the President of the National Assembly of Quebec, Mrs. Louise Harel, and the President of the Commission of the National Capital of Quebec, Mr. Pierre Boucher.
