Walked along the front from the Navigators Monument, Padrão dos
Descobrimentos, and the Monastery, Mosteiro dos Jerõnimos, during
our stay in Cascais. This was a really interesting visit, loved
exploring the interior and wondered just how much of a defensive
show could have been put on from here. Would the builders really
have gone to all the trouble of this wonderful exterior decoration
if it was likely to have been blown away at the first broadside
from a man-o-war? And would they have put it there if it were only
a customs post? Still it makes for a good visit.
