I use this bridge on a regular basis. It is not technically
abandoned. It is still "maintained" by the St. Louis County
Department of Highways and Traffic and it's still open to
pedestrians and cyclists just as it was before it was closed to
auto traffic. Right now it's the only pleasant way to cross the
Meramec on a bicycle. I've even just sat down and had breakfast on
the bridge a few times. I wish they would keep it as is, although
word is that its fate is demolition in the next few years.
