In addition to seeing action at Gettysburg, General Gibbons also
fought in the second battle of Bull Run, at Antietam, and in the
Wilderness campaign of 1864. After the Civil War he fought in the
Indian wars in the West and commanded one of the columns that moved
against the Sioux in 1876. The next year he fought an inconclusive
battle with the Nez Percés at Big Hole in Montana. Like I have said
in other waymark visits logs, I always learn something new when
Visiting Gettyburg and my visit to the General Gibbons Statue
prompted me to seek more information about this man.
