I was stationed at the Sub Base when I went through submarine
training school in 1966. Things sure have changed. No more dozens
of wooden piers with side-by-side diesel boats on the lower base.
Got a rare on-board tour of a current SSN while revisiting the base
during my sub's 40th reunion (USS WILL ROGERS SSBN659). I was on
the Gold crew and made 5 cold war patrols as a sonar tech.
