description/mission statement:
This group is responsible for cataloging the location of herbaria around the world. An herbarium is a collection of mounted dried plant specimens used for study to include vegatative area surveys, study of individual species, and historical vegetative records. Many, if not most, herbaria are operated in conjunction with Colleges and Universities or botanical gardens. Some of the most well known herbaria are the Kew Herbarium at the Royal Botanic Gardens with over 7 million specimens and the Herbarium at the Missouri Botanical Gardens with over 5 million specimens.
