Working Water Wheels
 allows ratings
This category is for those locations where a wheel propelled by falling or running water may be used to run machinery or decoration.
Expanded Description:
Waterwheels for this category must be functional, that is actually working with falling water.

They DO NOT have to be actually connected to machinery or other apparatus. They may be primarily decorative if they are being propelled by falling or running water.

It the water source is seasonal, but clearly operational, then the waterwheel location may be submitted.

If the water source is no longer present, but the waterwheel is connected to its original building or machinery, preserved for viewing, then it may also be permitted.

NOT ALLOWED are waterwheels that are detached from both a water source and a building or machinery.

NOT ALLOWED are small waterwheels intended merely for garden or yard decorations.

Instructions for Posting a Working Water Wheels Waymark:

Personally obtain coordinates from a visit to the site. The coordinates must be as close to the waterwheel as physically possible.

At least two personally obtained photos. One should be a clear close up to show details of the waterwheel, and another from a distance to show the waterwheel in its setting. If there are signs or plaques, please include these as clear close-ups.

A description giving the (1) approximate size, (2) usage, (3) water source, (4) relevant history, (4) significance of the location, etc. must be included. If there are signs or plaques, consider entering the text of these in the long description!

(Entering the text makes it searchable, adding to the knowledge base. Those using screen readers can also access the information this way).

SPECIAL NOTE: While the details outlined in our category description, and the requirements listed in the posting instructions, cover the MINIMUM elements and standards for all waymarks in this category, each waymark will also be evaluated by a volunteer reviewer for overall quality and appropriateness. If a reviewer deems that there are deficiencies in some aspect of the waymark, the waymark may be either declined or accepted with request for changes and/or additions in either content or format.

Each waymark will be evaluated on its own merits. We will endeavor to be reasonable and flexible while maintaining the quality standards for the category. If there is a disagreement, try to work it out with the evaluating officer, or appeal to the group leader, but we reserve the right to accept or decline a waymark based on our best judgement.

LANGUAGE NOTE: We recognize waymarking as a global hobby and welcome waymarks from all countries. Because of our international scope, we also acknowledge ENGLISH as our lingua franca. English will create the highest level of accessibility globally. All waymarks must have at least a short description in ENGLISH. We encourage bilingual and multilingual waymarks, but one of the languages must be English. We have volunteer translators to help.

Relying on software or internet based translators, such as Babylon and Google Translate, may NOT yield accurate translations that are intelligible. Use these only when there is no alternative. Although we do not expect grammatical perfection, a waymark may be declined if there the English language is not understandable.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
Please give the date of your visit and a brief description of your experience and any additional information you may have about the waterwheel, its current condition, etc. We would very much like at least one original photo from your visit, but it is not absolutely necessary.
