Description:
*CATEGORY UPDATE 8/4/18* This category will now focus on solar powered structures with more of a presence and 'wow' factor (unique, artistic, innovative or of a large scale). Please read the expanded description below for more information. The mission of this category is to seek out locations where solar power is harvested for use as an alternative energy source and submit them here.
Expanded Description:

*CATEGORY UPDATE 8/4/18* This category will now focus on solar powered structures with more of a presence in the real-world and contain a 'wow' factor. We are looking for uniquely-built, artistically-designed, innovative (promoting clean energy), or structures of a sizable scale (think of solar farms or large panels on roofs to homes, businesses, or parking lots). Your submission to this category should cause potential visitors or passersby to stop, pause and say to themselves, "Wow, that's pretty neat!" See the graphic below for various types of solar powered structures we are accepting (and not accepting) in this category from this point forward.

More than 85% of previously-approved submissions will now be declined under the new guidelines. But why, you ask? Because... Solar powered structures of a smaller scale have become commonplace throughout the world and are found on trash cans, parking meters, lights, street signs, you name it. We will no longer accept these types of structures. All previously-approved submissions are grandfathered. Questionable submissions will most likely go to an officer vote to determine if they meet the guidelines for approval.

LARGE Solar Powered Building

Solar power is the use of energy from the sun, often as an alternative to other forms of energy. Solar power is considered a clean and renewable energy source as it does not deplete a limited fuel supply, nor emits any byproducts. Some applications of solar power are: heat, electricity, transportation, lighting, water desalination, and even photosynthesis in plants. See Wikipedia for more information.

Any location that solar power is converted to heat, electrical, or other use as an alternative energy form can be submitted here, as long as it has a sizable presence, is artistically built, is innovative or unique. Some examples are: homes, businesses, permanent signs, power stations/farms, and parking lots roofs (both thermal and electrical).

Greenhouses, yard ornaments, and other non-permanent locations are discouraged and should not be submitted here. Please contact the category officers if there is a question concerning a particular location.

Instructions for Posting a Solar Power Waymark:
A minimum of one photo of the solar powered structure showing the solar collector is required. Additional photos showing details, or area views are highly suggested.

Information about what kind of energy is used (thermal, electrical), size of the collector system, type of system, should be reported. Include a link to a website about the waymark, if possible.

NAMING: Please name your waymark: Name - City, State.
