Famous FiresIroquois Theater Fire 1903 - Chicago, IL

in Famous Fires

A fire in Chicago's Iroquois Theater (now the site of the rebuilt Oriental Theater) on December 30, 1903 resulted in the deaths of 571 persons. Hundreds were injured and another thirty would die from their injuries in the following weeks.

On January 13, 1874, a fire started in the basement of a store on Main and Summer Streets, then spread and consumed most of downtown Natick and described by the Boston Globe as, “One of seething flame, the light of which illuminated the sky for a distance of twenty miles around!”
