Lucky 7FIRST - Home and Post Office in Vernon, BC

This little cabin was built by Luc Girouard, a Quebecer, in 1867. It was the first home and the first post office in the City of Vernon, then known as Priest's Valley. Luc lived in it until 1893, at which time he built a larger house nearby.

Once a courthouse always a courthouse doesn't hold true for Blairmore's Courthouse. Built as much a jail and police detachment as a courthouse, it has since been abandoned in favour of newer digs and today is part of a technological school campus.

Older than Alberta itself, his courthouse was built in 1904 as a Territorial Court House when Alberta was still a part of the Northwest Territories. Alberta became a province the next year.

Apparently unique in the city of Vernon, this is the sole remaining Second Empire building in Vernon. This style became the official style for federal buildings in Canada in the 1870s and 1880s. This building, built in 1893, is now a dentist office.
