This Queen Anne house was the second house to be built on the homestead of politician Charles R. Prescott. It was initially surrounded by fruit orchards. Surrounded by the university, they finally bought it in 1955 and created a park around it.

One of five depression era buildings constructed on campus, this one was designed by local architect C. J. Forbis and funded in part by the PWA. Art Deco in design, it was a departure from the Renaissance Revival style seen exclusively to that time.

The early 1920s saw the addition of several buildings to the U of M campus, this being one. Designed by Link and Haire of Helena, it was completed in 1923 as a Renaissance Revival style men's residence.

Completed in 1903, this was one of the early buildings on campus. The third of five buildings here designed by A. J. Gibson, it occupies a premium position on The Oval. Originally the first women's residence, this is now the mathematics department.

The Oval has been an integral part of this campus since its planning in 1895. Though deviations from the master plan began as early as 1903, The Oval was laid down according to the master plan and remains as it was in 1899.

This beautiful old theatre narrowly escaped its demise in 2006 when a fire did extensive damage to the interior and the roof. The town, however, loves its theatre and took it upon itself to rebuild. We're sure glad they did.

Marble and mahogany inside and very much dignified outside, this former bank was designed by architect Michael Beezer of Seattle and brought to completion in 1912. It was built for S. E. Larabie, one time partner of Butte copper king W. A. Clark.

Opening grandly on December 7, 1910, the highly capitalized U.S. National Bank (capital - $50,000) was designed by architect Herman Kemna of Butte, MT. This was only the second bank to open in Deer Lodge, which had been around since the 1860s.

The Mitchell Block was the early 20th century equivalent of a Bar & Grill. As well, it offered rooms to let, a dining room and private card rooms. A Western Commercial style building, it was designed by H. B. Grant.

This building was originally one of the O. P. Skaggs Food Stores chain, which was later bought out by Safeway. Built as early as 1912, it was remodelled in the 1940s, losing its old style embellishments.

Begun prior to 1884, this is one of the oldest buildings in Deer Lodge. By 1884 it had begun to take on its present appearance, with its brick false front. The large front windows came still later.

Built in 1910 as part of the reconstruction of Fort Missoula, this row of buildings on Fort Missoula Road housed the officers on the post from 1910 to 1941. They were all done in Spanish Mission Style, bright white with red tile roofs.

Even soldiers aren't all work and no play, so the parade grounds served as their ball diamond. An odd first occurred here - the first flight of an airplane in Missoula took place at the parade grounds with the flight of Eugene Ely’s Curtiss biplane.

With the first burial taking place in 1876, this cemetery has received soldiers who served in the Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish American War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. As well, several children are buried here.

Built in 1906 as the post exchange or quartermaster's store, the building also served as a recreation hall. Later, in 1962, it became the post headquarters. After the closing of the post it has housed various other agencies.

The Thompson Falls Hydroelectric Dam project was initiated in 1910, coinciding with the construction of this, the first real medical facility to be built in the region. It was the brainchild of Dr. Everett Peek, also a principal in the dam project.
