Bien de Interés Cultural (Heritage of Cultural Interest), also referred to only by initials "BIC", is a Spanish legal protection of national heritage. According to what is defined by the text of the law, a Bien de Interés Cultural (Heritage of Cultural Interest) is any property of artistic, historical, paleontological, archaeological, ethnographic, technical or scientific interest, so declared by the competent authorities. It can also be declared as BIC, archaeological sites and natural sites, parks and gardens, which have artistic value, historical or anthropological.

The law provides the following categories for the declaration of a Bien de Interés Cultural (Heritage of Cultural Interest):
- Monumento (Monument)
- Conjunto histórico (Historical group or set)
- Jardín histórico (Historical garden)
- Sitio histórico (literally a historic site, the term is used for cultural landscapes)
- Zona arqueológica (Archaeological zone)

- The Ministry of Culture maintains an online database of all the Biens de Interés Cultural (Heritage of Cultural Interest), which can be found here: DATABASE
- Only the Biens of cultural interest (Heritage of Cultural Interest) listed on the Ministry of Culture database are candidates for inclusion in this Waymark category.
- Excluded from this category are:
» Delimitación only entries.

In the past the surroundings of monuments classified as BIC were not protected, so recently were added to the database entries to protect these surroundings.
Example:

The BIC databese entry: Delimitación del entorno de protección del Palacio Güell (Will NOT be accepted)
The heritage classified as BIC more recently, already includes the protection of the surroundings.
Example:
The BIC databese entry: Viviendas de la Barceloneta y delimitación de su entorno (Will be accepted)

» Museo only entries.

Database entries of museums only will not be accepted, but the database entries of buildings where they are housed will be accepted. An example is the Maritime Museum of Barcelona and the building where it is housed, as you can see below.

The BIC databese entry: Conjunto Histórico Artístico Reales Atarazanas / Reials Drassanes (Will be accepted)

» Entries with "Dejado Sin Efecto".

The entries with "Dejado Sin Efecto" (Left without effect) are excluded because the monument for some reason is no longer a Bien de Interés Cultural (Heritage of Cultural Interest).

- Some of the Biens of cultural interest (Heritage of Cultural Interest) have a sign stating that they are classified heritage, this signs may vary depending on region. You can see an example below:

Instructions for Posting a Spanish Heritage Waymark:

- Provide coordinates taken by you on the site.
- Provide at least two daylight photos you have taken, if the Heritage have a sign stating that it is a classified heritage please include a photo of it too.
- Provide the values of the variables to match the data available at the Ministry of Culture database list.
- Provide a website with information about the monument.
- Includes all information that you can get in the Long/Detailed Description, if your description is not in English, please add at least a short description in English. (Waymarks without Long/Detailed Description will not be accepted .)
- Please make every attempt to following the naming convention below:

NOTE: Extraneous elements, such as counters, banners, widgets or other personal embellishments and hyperlinks that do not enhance the waymark directly, will be NOT accepted and will result in the waymark being declined.
