Managed By: Icon Here Roller Derby
Public Roller Skating Rinks, whether for quad-skates or in-line skates, designed for casual recreational use.
Expanded Description:
The first known public roller skating rink opened in Newport, Rhode Island in 1866. This pastime has surged and waned in popularity over the years, but many of these venues are still to be found. The addition of in-line skating has once again increase their popularity.

This category is for Public Roller Skating Rinks, designed for casual recreational use, whether they are for quad-skates, in-line skates, or both.

Rinks dedicated primarily for competitive sport skating events, such as hockey or roller derby action, should NOT be included here.

Instructions for Posting a Roller Skating Rinks Waymark:
1. WAYMARK NAME -- MUST be the name of the rink followed by a hyphen and the city and state (or country) of its location.

EXAMPLE: Original Roller Rink - Newport, RI

2. COORDINATES must be personally obtained by a physical visit to the location. They should be for the main entrance to the building NOT the parking lot or the street.

3. TWO photos are REQUIRED! One must be a general photo showing the rink in its setting. One must be a CLOSE-UP clearly showing the name of the rink on a sign or building. This means the sign should take up most of the photo area and be clearly legible. Legitimate exceptions will be made as warranted. Please include a private note of explanation if this is necessary. Photos of the interior are encouraged, but no required.

4.NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION: A good description MUST be included. We don't need every detail, but make a good faith effort to give enough description so that the reader can form a good idea of what this place is like.

4. VARIABLES: We have attempted to keep the required variables to a minimum, but it is expected that a good faith effort be made to provide the information requested.

SPECIAL NOTE: While the details outlined in our category description, and the requirements listed in the posting instructions, cover the MINIMUM elements and standards for all waymarks in this category, each waymark will also be evaluated by a volunteer reviewer for overall quality and appropriateness. If a reviewer deems that there are deficiencies in some aspect of the waymark, the waymark may be either declined or accepted with request for changes and/or additions in either content or format.

Each waymark will be evaluated on its own merits. We will endeavor to be reasonable and flexible while maintaining the quality standards for the category. If there is a disagreement, try to work it out with the evaluating officer, or appeal to the group leader, but we reserve the right to accept or decline a waymark based on our best judgement.

LANGUAGE NOTE: We recognize waymarking as a global hobby and welcome waymarks from all countries. Because of our international scope, we also acknowledge ENGLISH as our lingua franca. English will create the highest level of accessibility globally. All waymarks must have at least a short description in ENGLISH. We encourage bilingual and multilingual waymarks, but one of the languages must be English. We have volunteer translators to help.

Relying on software or internet based translators, such as Babylon and Google Translate, may NOT yield accurate translations that are intelligible. Use these only when there is no alternative. Although we do not expect grammatical perfection, a waymark may be declined if there the English language is not understandable.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
Please provide the DATE of your visit and a short description. Try to include at least one interesting detail, rather than just generalities. Additional photos are encouraged, but not absolutely required.
