Managed By: Icon Here World War I Memorials
Description:
This category seeks to waymark all World War I Memorials and Monuments, big and small, located throughout the world. This category applies to general memorials erected by cities, counties, towns, villages and nations to honor native soldiers as a group. (Monuments and memorials to individual soldiers of WWI are not permitted.) Please click on "show additional information" below to see requirements for posting in this category.
Expanded Description:

Locate a World War I memorial. Older ones might refer to the war as "The Great War" or "The World War". Monuments covering multiple wars may be submitted (for example combined WWI and WWII monuments), as long as the WWI part is featured in a photo (see below).

As stated, you need to take a good quality photo of the monument without GPS in the shot. Be sure to record all required information for the category.

Instructions for Posting a World War I Memorials and Monuments Waymark:

1) Please give the basic name of the memorial or monument you are recording. Something like "Great War Soldier's Memorial, Atlanta, Georgia" or "World War Monument, Boston, Massachusetts".

Titles should be factual and must contain the monument name and the city it is located in only. Waymark titles that contain anything else but the actual monument name and the city where it is located will be declined by the group.

2) This category requires at least one original photo of the entire monument taken by the person posting the new waymark. This photo should be clean - i.e. a photo of just the monument. Daytime photos only. No GPS receiver in shot. No vacation photos please. Please be sure that this is a good quality photo. Take and post separate close-ups of marker inscriptions, if needed.

3) If the monument covers multiple wars, two photos are required. One of the whole monument and another of the World War I section or inscription.

4) Proper coordinates are required and basic direction on how to find the monument are much appreciated.

5) The date the monument was erected or dedicated is optional, but strongly encouraged. You can usually find this on the monument itself or by doing some Internet research. In the very rare case where a monument is undated, make an estimate. If you only have the year, enter as (for example) 1/1/1920

6) Indicate whether this is a private monument or public monument if known. Private monuments are those built by a private group, like Veterans of Foreign Wars. Public monument are built by governments or government entities like counties, cities, villages, states or countries.

7) Record the name of the government entity or private organization that built the monument. If not indicated or you are unable to find by Internet research, state "unknown".

8) Check the appropriate geographical region this monument is located in.

9) Rate the waymark from 1 to 5.

10) After all that, pat yourself on the back, well done!

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
New logs to this waymark must contain at least one photo of the monument with your GPS in the shot as proof of your visit. No old vacation photos please. You must have taken a picture while seeking this waymark. Logs that don't meet the photo requirement will be archived.
