Description:
To provide a comprehensive list of the various Canadian National Historic Sites.
Expanded Description:

Waymarks in this category are those deemed of Historical Importance within Canada by Parks Canada.

They exemplify the Canadian Spirit and showcase our unique heritage.

Instructions for Posting a Canadian National Historic Sites Waymark:

To qualify for this Category, all Waymarks must be listed on Parks Canada's official web site.

Please check for your entry in Administered sites first and if it does not appear there, then check in the National Historic Sites.

There are four classifications for this Category as listed here

  • Administered Site - (there are 167 listed on the Parks Canada site) CHECK THESE FIRST
  • National Historic Site - (as listed under Designation of Historical Importance)
  • National Historic Person - (as listed under Designation of Historical Importance)
  • National Historic Event - (as listed under Designation of Historical Importance)

Administered sites MUST be listed as Administered as these locations offer touring and visitation options hosted by Parks Canada. The remaining classifications are self-guided or plaques only.

Another great resource is HistoricPlaces.ca which is administered by Parks Canada. Where possible, please cross-reference with their listings as a variable entry.

Naming your Waymark Listing: You may name your Waymark Listing anything you like within reason but it should provide some indication of the nature of the site. Consider adding a descriptive tag at the beginning of the name to further assist Waymarking participants to locate the Waymark.

As a guideline, the following is a suggested naming scheme for listings in this category: CNHS - True North Strong and Free

While you are free to create your own Waymark Listing name, using the suggested style may help people when they visit multiple Waymark locations.

An image of the CNHS plaque must be provided in the Image Gallery for the listing (Administered Sites might not have a plaque). You may use this image, or you may use another image of the location that you have taken when you visited the site as the Default Image.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:

As a suggestion for your visit log, please make every effort to supply a brief-to-detailed note about your experience at the Waymark. If possible also include an image that was taken when you visited the Waymark. Images can be of yourself, a personal Waymarking signature item or just one of general interest that would be of value to others. Sharing your experience helps promote Waymarking and provides a dynamic history of your adventures.
