Description:: A category for waymarking all structures worldwide composed of Dartmoor Granite. Dartmoor Granite was quarried all over Dartmoor and was renowned for its crushing strength and was used in many prestigious London building projects, including most notably London Bridge. Other buildings where the stone was used, mostly for plinths and load-bearing elements, include the British Museum, Goldsmiths Hall and the National Gallery plus many other structures globally including sculptures, Crosses etc.

Waymarks for this category can include anything composed or structured from Dartmoor Granite anywhere on the planet. The original London Bridge is a fine example as it now resides in the USA at Lake Havasu on the Colorado River in Arizona (I believe). The category can include any structure composed of, built from, sculptured from Dartmoor Granite. For example this can include named buildings or ruins, granite stone troughs, granite millstones, apple crushers, granite crosses, named tors or outcrops, ring rocks, bulls eye stones, memorials etc. The list can be endless as this stone is still quarried today in Blackingstone quarry and bought and used all over the UK and the world. We will not be accepting any granite gravestones/ memorials to families or individuals, due to the large number in graveyards/cemeteries. War Memorials will be accepted.

Instructions for Posting a Dartmoor Granite Waymark:

The waymark must be positively identified as being composed from Dartmoor Granite with a short sentence or two describing it or it's known history (if available). A photo is an obvious requirement but this can be either a current or historical photo or both, for example many structures were subject of old postcard, newspaper photo or from books (subject to any copyright conditions)
