Homemade Tombstones
Description:
This category is for listing tombstones/gravemarkers that were not professionally made. Many are made from semi-permanent materials such as untreated wood or unpainted metal.
Expanded Description:
Homemade tombstones can be very simple or very elaborate. They are sometimes placed out of economic necessity. However, they should not be considered a cheap replacement. They are often very personal tributes and give a great deal of insight into the deceased.

Because of the semi- or non-permanent nature of these markers, many of these markers erode or corrode away. Waymarking them is a way of recording their existance and sharing these tributes for the future.

Roadside tributes, such as wooden crosses placed at the scene of a fatal accident, will not be accepted. The homemade tombstone must be at an actual grave.

The tombstone must be for a human, not an animal.

Some examples of handmade tombstones:
F M
Cesino Cielli
Richard "Ricky" Thomas Hickman
We ask that all activities related to the posting or visiting of Waymarks in this category take place showing the utmost respect for the deceased, their families, and the surrounding area. Always keep in mind that activities within any cemetery can be a point of great sensitivity among individuals both within and outside of our community. Do not touch, deface, or place items directly on markers or headstones. Please act appropriately and responsibly when you are in the area of these final resting places, including observing all posted hours of access.
Instructions for Posting a Homemade Tombstones Waymark:
Coordinates at the tombstone are required. If there are barriers near the tombstone, please do not cross them to get your coordinates. A photo of the tombstone is also required. (Please do NOT include your GPS in the photo.) In the long description, please include all names and text found on the tombstone.

Other information, such as details about the deceased or a description of the style of the marker, are appreciated. The variables -- material used and dates of birth and death -- are optional, but appreciated.

Please name your Waymark with the name of the deceased, followed by either the name of the cemetery or the location: "Bill Jones, XYZ Cemetery" or "Bob Smith, Anytown, USA."

If there are several homemade tombstones clustered together, please waymark them as a single group, rather than as several individual markers. You can always upload photos of the individual markers when you post your waymark.
Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
To help give a different perspective and to better the Waymark for future visitors please tell us about your visit and upload a favorite photograph you took of the tombstone. Although visiting this waymark in person is the only thing required of you to receive credit for your visit, taking the time to add this information is greatly appreciated.

Logs which include photographs representing any form of disrespectful behavior will be subject to deletion.
