This group would help us preserve some of our history, highlighting abandoned Air Force radar stations from the cold war era. There were many radar sites all around the country.
Expanded Description:
This group would help us preserve some of our history, highlighting abandoned Air Force radar stations from the cold war era. There were many radar sites all around the country. Some of these sites played an expanded role in our Air Defense. Some sites were BUIC (Back Up Intercept Control). If the main NORAD system was down the BUIC sites could take over control.

The sites maybe on private property if needed please seek permission before entering.

If you served at the site you can count that as a site visit.

If you have pictures from when a site was active feel free to post them along with pictures of the site in it's current condition. Access maybe limited permission maybe needed to gain closeup access to some sites or to photograph them.

Note: If your long descriptions or photos are cut and pasted from another source please give a credit to that source.

The Grand Turks was a vital part of our national defense from 1953 to 1984. A lot of the buildings remain as evidence of the existence. We were told that all electrical power for the island comes from a generator left behind by the Air Force.
