Description:
This category is for Waymarking the Super Fund sites Across the Continent. The logs will serve to keep an update on them.
Expanded Description:
"Years ago, people were less aware of how dumping chemical wastes might affect public health and the environment. On thousands of properties where such practices were intensive or continuous, the result was uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites, such as abandoned warehouses and landfills. Citizen concern over the extent of this problem led Congress to establish the Superfund Program in 1980 to locate, investigate, and clean up the worst sites nationwide. The EPA administers the Superfund program in cooperation with individual states and tribal governments."

Waymarks placed in this category must be one from the SuperFund sites list.

Instructions for Posting a Super Fund Sites Waymark:
Waymark Name:
The Waymark name should be the name of the particular location or business that is the subject of your Waymark.

Variables:
EPA ID #:(Not Optional)
Example:NED981713837

Site Name:This is the complete name of the Superfund Cleanup as listed by the EPA.
Example:10TH STREET SITE

Link to site:Supply a link to the EPA web page that lists the cleanup specific to your Waymark location.
Example:Link to Site

This link must go to the site's individual information page.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE
EPA ID # (Not Optional)
Example:When no number is assigned: ASARCO Tacoma Smelter
Site Name: This is the complete name of the Superfund Cleanup as listed by the EPA.
Example: ASARCO Tacoma Smelter
Link to site: Supply a link to the EPA web page that lists the cleanup specific to your waymark location.
Example: Link To Site

I used the ASARCO Tacoma smelter in the example because it is a location that has over (quoting the EPA) "300 active businesses and nearly 500 identified point and non-point sources of contamination. The site is divided into a number of separate Project Areas being managed as distinct sites". Each of these project areas are potential Waymarks in our opinion. The multi location example will help to guide the Waymarker in the creation process.

Your GPS listed coordinates must be from a place where the site can be viewed from a safe area and on public access, although some are rather large, only one waymark is allowed for each superfund site.
Use the photograph you took as the Default Image.
Even though a Superfund site is cleaned up,it is not off the list.
We will continue to keep it listed for monitoring purposes.
Please do not put yourself or other Waymarker's at risk.
Enter these sites at your own risk.
