Many individuals throughout history have gained wide notoriety through their deeds, efforts, or contributions to society. For those whose time among the living has passed, their final resting place serves as an ideal location to reflect upon their lives, and how the world was impacted as a result of their actions.

The purpose of this category is to identify the locations of the gravesites of such famous individuals so that others might honor their memory by visiting their final resting place.

We ask that all activities related to the posting or visiting of Waymarks in this category take place showing the utmost respect for the deceased, their families, and the surrounding area.

Always keep in mind that activities within any cemetery can be a point of great sensitivity among individuals both within and outside of our community. Do not touch, deface, or place items directly on markers or headstones. Please act appropriately and responsibly when you are in the area of these final resting places, including observing all posted hours of access.
Instructions for Posting a Grave of a Famous Person Waymark:
To qualify in this category, submitted Waymarks must meet the following criteria:

1) The individual whose gravesite location is being recorded must be widely recognized, rather than just locally known.

2) To assure that a respectful period of time has gone by since the individual has passed on, only gravesites of those who were laid to rest five or more years ago can be included.

3) A respectful photograph of the grave marker or headstone must be provided. If possible, the photograph should clearly identify the deceased by name.

4) You must have personally visited the location, obtained the coordinates using a GPSr and taken the qualifying photographs while at the location. Coordinates should be taken at the actual location of the grave, or as close as reasonably possible. If the grave is located inside a building, coordinates should for the entrance to the building).

5) Gravesites must be in publicly accessible areas. Gravesites located in closed or restricted areas will not be allowed.

6) If the descriptive text provided for the waymark includes text copied in whole or in part from another web site or sites, you MUST provide a "source" reference in the description to give credit to the source from which the text was obtained. Example: "Source: http://www.wikipedia.com/Name_of_Deceased"
Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
To post a visit log for waymarks in this category, you must have personally visited the waymark location. When logging your visit, please provide a note describing your visit experience, along with any additional information about the waymark or the surrounding area that you think others may find interesting.

We especially encourage you to include any pictures that you took during your visit to the waymark. However, only respectful photographs are allowed. Logs which include photographs representing any form of disrespectful behavior (including those showing personal items placed on or near the grave location) will be subject to deletion.
