St Nicholas church was built in 1380 but in the 15th century was split in two. The part to the west, including the tower is still St Nicholas church whilst that to the east is known as Fitzalan Chapel. The church is on the north side of London Road.

The church of St Mary-at-the-Walls was built against Colchester's Roman wall in the west of the town. The first recorded church was in 1206. The church tower was destroyed in the English Civil War and was rebuilt in 1729 and 1911.

This former Anglican church is a Grade I listed building. The tower was built in the mid-11th century, probably about 1020, using Roman brick. It continued in use as a church until 1956 and is currently a café and arts centre.

The church was built in the 12th century with changes made each century onwards. The church was closed in 1953 and was used by St John Ambulance until 1972 when it was converted into a masonic hall which is what it is used for today.
