The Presbyterians in Merritt had, shortly after the turn of the century, met for years in various locations in the town. In 1908, land for a church was bought for $400. By November of 1910 the congregation had a church.

This general store was opened in 1928 by the Toy family, who had immigrated to Canada from China around 1916. They operated the store sporadically until the 2000s, after which time it became a City of Merritt Heritage Property.
