Though this site has hosted two separate buildings since 1915 or so, it has gone from stables to Chevys to Studebakers in the early 20th century. Somehow, it was the Studebaker name that has stuck.

This large Victorian home was designed by architects Ameryre and Thori of Superior, Wisconsin and completed in 1892. It is a classic example of Victorian attention to the minutest detail, extending upward to the detail of the chimney.

Deer Lodge, fortuitously positioned when gold was discovered in the area, was one of the earlier towns to spring up in western Montana. Becoming a railroad divisional point after the turn of the century didn't hurt its chances of survival, either.

The Andrew Carnegie libraries were used as a model for this library, donated to the community of Deer Lodge by cattleman Conrad Kohrs and his wife, Augusta. Constructed in 1902 it was designed by architects Link and Carter of Butte, MT.

Constructed in 1878, Trask Hall was the first building of Montana's first postsecondary school. It was later renamed after benefactor Alanson Trask. Closed in 1900, the school reopened in 1906 and closed forever in 1917.

The American Women’s League, founded in 1908, built two chapter houses in Montana, one in Avon and this one in Deer Lodge. Constructed in 1910, it was one of five basic designs created by architects Helfensteller, Hirsch & Watson for the league.

Eureka's first bank, the Farmers and Merchants State Bank, was the work of Kalispell investors who managed to capitalize it at $25,000 on opening in 1908. Opening day saw deposits of a further $7,000.

From the turn of the century until 1924, when this jail was built, Troy made do with a 10 X 10 wood jail. About eight times the size of the original, this substantial concrete jail then served the town for many more years.

This is far from the first First Presbyterian Church in Whitefish, but this one, completed in 1921, has been the longest lasting. It was the design of congregation members, with only small changes made by architects Rigg and Vantyne of Spokane.

Somewhat of a rarity, the Whitefish Great Northern Depot was designed by railroad architect Thomas McMahon in the Tudor style, which was already falling out of favour in 1928, the year of its completion. Nonetheless, it's a great looking station.

Established in 1877 as the only permanent military post west of the Continental Divide, Fort Missoula had a long career, outlasting all other Montana forts. Active through two world wars, it was finally decommissioned in 1948, after 71 years.

Though there may be some doubt, this bungalow was most likely designed by Charles Doenges in 1913 and built in 1914. The owner was Randolph Hoyt. co-owner of the Thompson and Ward Hotels. This is one of several built on Doenges' designs in the town.

This house was built in 1910, very shortly after the town of Thompson Falls was incorporated and trying to become an urban force. One of the more prominent urbanites in the new town was the owner of the house, the crafty lawyer, Auburn S. Ainsworth.

Completed in 1908, the Ward Hotel was built by an entrepreneur of large ambition, Edward Donlan, a transplanted Canadian of Irish lineage. Owner of large tracts of land within the district, he went on to become state Senator, and nearly governor.

Stillwater State Forest, Montana's first state forest, came into being in 1918. In 1922 construction began on Stillwater Ranger Station, one of Montana's first. It remained the state's only major ranger station until 1954.
