This statue was created as part of the "Spirit Bears in the City" project in 2006, where dozens of blank fibreglass bears were painted by local businesses, displayed around Greater Victoria for several months, then auctioned off for charity. This one, named "Kody", was sponsored by the Sooke Program for the Arts, Sooke Lioness Lions Club, and Sooke Lions Club. Kody was painted by local artists Gene Sebelius and Bonnie Spencer.
