The Catholic parish in Big Lake, Minnesota, got its start in 1955 when local Catholic families got together to buy land. By the time the new church was built and dedicated in 1958, almost double the number of Catholic families lived in the parish. The church was called "Our Lady of the Lake," a name still in use for the Catholic cemetery in Big Lake.
In 2012, Our Lady of the Lake parish in Big Lake merged with Immaculate Conception parish in Becker to form Mary of the Visitation parish. The parish still uses both sites.
