About Benatky nad Jizerou Chateau
On the ruins of a Gothic monastery built the family Donin in 1526 a seat with Renaissance elements. In 1599 bought the chateau the Emperor Rudolf II and established here an observatory for his astronomer Tycho de Brahe. In 1656 burnt the chateau down. In the 18th cent, it got a Late Baroque appearance. In the early 19th cent, owned the chateau the Thuns and they made other adaptations. From 1886 the chateau slowly abandoned. In 1920 the town bought it and began with necessary reconstructions. Now is in the chateau a countryside museum with a unique collection of insects.
