Commemorative disk 4 inches in diameter is part of a project to set a GEOCAC benchmark in each of the fifty states, and to have them included in the National Geodetic Survey database. The disk was designed by GEO*Trailblazer 1, and is manufactured by Berntsen International.

And why GEOCAC? That is the agency name used by geocachers who report their recoveries of survey marks to NGS.

It was monumented in 2009 by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The Minnesota GEOCAC benchmark is a second order vertical control mark. The elevation is 1186.271 feet, with an accuracy of 0.016 foot. The horizontal coordinates are from my hand-held consumer-grade GPS (HH2).

The mark is in a concrete monument, flush with the ground. A bar magnet embedded in the monument makes it magnetic.

It is in the southeast quarter of Section 25, Township 44 N, Range 32 W, in Fort Ripley Township.

THE MARK IS 7.5 MI SOUTHWEST OF BAXTER, 7.5 MI SOUTHWEST ALONG TRUNK HIGHWAY 371 FROM THE JUNCTION OF TRUNK HIGHWAY 371 AND TRUNK HIGHWAY 210 IN BAXTER, AT TRUNK HIGHWAY 371 MILEPOST 21.15, TURN SOUTHEAST ONTO NORTH KOERING ROAD, PROCEED SOUTHEAST 300 FT TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE BRAINERD AREA WELCOME CENTER, MARK IS 200 FT NORTH OF THE NORTH PARKING LOT OF THE BRAINERD AREA WELCOME CENTER, 180 FT NORTH OF A LIGHT POLE, 230 FT NORTHEAST OF A LIGHT POLE, 75 FT NORTHEAST OF MNDOT DISTRICT THREE THIRD ORDER HORIZONTAL CONTROL POINT, 34 FT NORTH OF A 6 INCH NORWAY PINE, 39 FT EAST OF AN 8 INCH NORWAY PINE, 27 FT SOUTH OF A 6 INCH NORWAY PINE.
