At over 100m in height, the Orlando Cooling Tower murals are by far the largest in the Country, Continent? Over 250 litres of paint were used in completing this mammoth mural.
Janine Kleinschmidt was commissioned by FNB to create the mural which took 6 months to complete. With chickens, trains and music included in this mural, it accomplishes its intention of being representative of Soweto, South Africa.
The cooling towers also formed a Fast Forward on the South African leg of the Amazing Race. The plans for the disused towers are to create an adventure centre where one can bungee jump inside the tower.
The published coordinates are for a bus-stop off the road where you can get an up close view of these amazing pieces of artwork. Other points of interest in the area are Nelson Mandela's old house and the Hector Pieterson Memorial.
